218s all the way.

My second visit to Germany, staying in Hamburg and sampling the superb selection of traction in the region.

At the time 218s worked to Cuxhaven, and 143s to Stade, although these services are now worked by Metronom.

218s also worked the Hamburg to Lubeck services, with a shuttle to Travemunde Strande. Electrification was underway and time running out for diesel haulage, and Lubeck depot.

NOB work services from Altona to Westerland with a mixture of immaculate stock and locos. DB work the Autozug services to Westerland from Niebull, and IC services from Westerland to Altona, with stock being hauled by electric power onwards.

On the last day I spent time at Itzehoe, half way between Hamburg and Bremen. Varied hauled stock including Metronom double deck stock, Inter Cities, and 143s on the local Itzehoe to Harburg service. Freight was incessant, and on a Saturday.
