These locos could be seen on a variety of trains in a variety of locations on the Western, Eastern and London Midland regions.

My shots illustrate them at Kings Cross, Paddington, Bletchley, Liverpool Lime Street, Marylebone, Romsey and Southampton.

During the 1980s you could often see a loco stabled at Marylebone, presumably in connection with the steam specials to Stratford. Train heating locos were also stabled at Marylebone, including ex class 25s (ETHELs) and even a former class 15.

As at March 2004 class 31s still operate on Network Rail tracks, not bad for a loco class introduced in the 1950s.
