Mainline South
Lines: North Woolwich to Silvertown
23rd September 2006

Due to be closed shortly, well worth a visit before this happens [written in sep 06].

Track is jointed giving a pleasant clickety/clack by the train's wheels. there are relics from the past still visible, examples include:

delapitated crossing gates for a disused double track at Silvertown
disused semaphore bracket at silvertown
fascinating railway museum at North Woolwich
oh yes, and a plaque at Silvertown marking a station upgrade in 1989 reopened by the Minister for Transport, Michael Portillo...!

Future? Well, in my opinion it would be a perfect line for the third rail to remain in situ and run preserved DC stock. What a bright future for the line if preservationists move in.
